How do I change the mower’s engine oil?

Ensure that you only use the recommended engine oil as mentioned in your engine manual – the classification needs to be SG-SL. Turn off the engine and don’t wait for too long before you begin draining oil, a warmer engine will improve the oil’s viscosity and enable you to drain the oil more completely.

Park the mower on a level surface and ensure that you use a suitable container to catch the dripping oil. Locate the oil fill cap and clean the area around it before taking out the dipstick to make sure that no foreign particles or contaminants enter the chamber. With the container positioned beneath the bottom of the drainage valve, remove the yellow cap and allow the oil to begin draining. You can then proceed to disengage the valve by pushing it inwards a bit and twisting it in the counter clockwise direction. Now pull out the drainage valve gently. Wait until all the oil has completely drained before removing the container.

Once all the oil has been completely drained, carefully lock the valve back in place by closing the drain chute and fastening it securely in place. Turn in the clockwise direction until the pin is secure. Now take out the drainage tubing and fit the yellow cap back into position.
Now proceed to fill fresh engine oil into the chamber through the dipstick tubing, taking care to ensure that no oil spills on the chassis of the unit. Do not overfill because oil will expand under operating conditions. Gauge the level of oil with the help of the dipstick and securely fasten the cap once you’re done. Turn on the engine and allow it to run for a minute or two.

How do I clean or replace the air filter?

Regular replacement of the oil and air filters is essential to a healthy and long-lasting engine – a dirty filter can cause your engine to lose power while mowing and increase fuel consumption, increasing your carbon footprint and expenditure. Ensure that you clean the filter at least once a week or replace it if cleaning isn’t making much of a difference. Remember that the life of your filters also depend on your environmental conditions and dustier conditions often call for more frequent replacements.

Ensure that the air screen is also cleaned regularly to prevent buildup of dust and debris – use a wire brush to clean the gauze. An unclean mesh will also leave your engine more susceptible to overheating. Locate the filter (usually next to your engine block) and open the housing, clear out any debris before removing the screen and surrounding spacers. Use kerosene or any recommended lubricant to clean the filter’s foam element (engine oil can also be used) and allow excess fluid to drop off. Leave the filter overnight to dry before replacing it. If you’re unable to clean the filter, replace it with a new one. Squeeze the element the next day to remove excess oil as this can attract dust.
Proceed to reassemble the element within the filter and insert back into its housing. Fasten the screen.

How do I clean the mower’s battery?

Regular cleaning of the terminals is essential to maintaining a good start motor and preventing over-cranking, which can severely deteriorate the motor’s lifespan. First proceed to adjust the steering height by taking out the mounting hardware that’s attaches the upper control arm of the lever to the handlebars before sliding the handlebar itself up or down. You’ll find small adjustment holes that the pin can rest it, locking the height of the handlebar. After this, re-install the mounting hardware and fasten it securely. Once you’ve selected the height of your choice, move on to adjusting the width of the steering lever. You’ll need to first loosen the mechanism at the bottom of the lower control arm.

Once you’ve done this, proceed to rotate the eccentric spacer unit further away from the outside position of the operator’s handling position. After you’ve done this, you can move on to adjusting the forward or backward movement of the lever – this is done by first loosening the bolts that attach the handlebar to the upper control arm unit. Now slide the lever to the desired position before fastening the bolts once again and securing the unit in place.

How do I adjust the height of my mower’s deck?

Finding the right cutting height for your lawn is a critical part of the mowing process. It’s advisable that you set the mower with the front end pitching slightly down, enabling clippings and taller grass to be forced down and spread evenly as the mower passes over the patch – although it’s important that you make sure the side-to-side pitch is uniform on both sides.

In order to get started setting the height, first ensure that the unit has been turned off and all moving parts have come to a complete stop. After this, proceed to make adjustments to the trunnions before you record all the required measurements – now adjust the pitch of the deck as per this information.

The measurements needed for this step are the distance that the mower’s blades clear the ground (or the current cutting height), the forward pitch or banking of the mower’s blade and the side-to-side pitch of the blades.
Now continue to make adjustments to the trunnions over and over again until you have achieved the desired height with all three parameters. Ensure that you’re able to mow properly with the selected height or make the adjustments again until you get the desired calibrations.
